Time magazine picture

1. The object is a vase which resembles the hydria in figure 4-22 on page 101 of our textbook.

2. The modern symbol used on the surface of the object is a circle segment which represents substances fundamental to society. (I couldn't find this exact symbol anywhere, but I did find the circle segment symbol which clearly resembles this but without the two horizontal lines.)

3. The implied metaphor is that the structure of Greece is no longer firm and holding, but rather is beginning to breakaway.

    good work.. a few more questions. What syle of vase is in the illustration? Is it an example of red figure or black figure work?
    The symbol represents the European Euro monetary system..like the symbol for American currency which is $.
    Yes, the Greek vase is a metaphor for the broken Greek economy..it no longer hold water.
